In the Pines

tin-roof

In the shack by the pines

no one recalls that day in happy times

don’t want to remember

just don’t want to know

couldn’t be 19 in the shade by the pines

Souls older than the rhymes

faces in the doorway

Alight with an unwelcoming glow

Behind the shack by the pines

Midsummer passions and moonshine lines

darker still in my dreams

Inside the door,  I do not want to go

see the burning shack in the pines

Gasoline serenade to our crimes

the screams still hold us together

but that was so long ago

In the shade by the pines

I fell out of my mind

I never fell back in love

Time seeps forward, walking slow

In the shade by the pines

is where I lost my life

Ghosts still sing the songs about the boy

love brought low

in the shadow of the pines
